What Anthropic says: On Monday on Reddit, Anthropic acknowledged users’ suspicions, writing, “We’re aware people are hitting usage limits in Claude Code way faster than expected.” An update came a few hours later via another comment: “Still working on this. It’s the top priority for the team, and we know this is blocking a lot of you. We’ll share more as soon as we have it.”
What’s the cause? While Anthropic hasn’t stated what’s causing the unexpected limit exhaustions, one redditor claims to have found the bug themselves after reverse-engineering the Claude Code binary, finding “two independent bugs that cause prompt cache to break, silently inflating costs by 10–20x.”
