This week, Google launched the latest version of its Gemini Pro model, and Senior Editor for AI Frederic Lardinois writes that Gemini 3.1 Pro is … mostly great. For one, it’s far better at solving complex problems than Google’s previous mainstream Gemini model, at least according to the benchmarks.
According to Google, the “core intelligence” of Gemini 3.1 Pro comes directly from the Deep Think model, which explains why 3.1 Pro performs so well on reasoning benchmarks.
The Google news comes amid a flurry of updates from both Anthropic and OpenAI, which have launched several models in recent weeks. And earlier this month, Google launched Gemini 3 Deep Think, which features a specialized reasoning mode.
Officially, Gemini 3.1 Pro is still in preview, but Google has already made it widely available. Go deeper: “Google’s Gemini 3.1 Pro is mostly great.”
