Do we need a new database option? Microsoft seems to think so: DocumentDB is a new open source database solution donated by Microsoft to the Linux Foundation. Research analyst and technology journalist Jelani Harper reports that DocumentDB combines the flexibility of MongoDB’s schema-less document store with the reliability and extensibility of PostgreSQL. Jelani notes that DocumentDB’s schema-free design and ability to store complex session history make it an ideal foundation for generative AI applications.
